The Bona Style: The Salty Project

Posted by Shorebread | Thursday, June 21, 2012

What I love about fashion is the amazing, creative people that are behind it. You don't have to go all the way to New York or Los Angeles to meet exciting people who are making a difference in the fashion world either. You would be surprised how many locals here, right in Ocean City, are doing great things with fashion.

While explaining to a friend of mine that I was feeling a little uninspired lately and that I was looking for something new and fresh that I could write about. She shared with me that her boyfriend had launched a t-shirt line. This is not your typical t-shirt line; this company actually gives 15% of their proceeds to our local communities.

Now this concept sound all fine and good, but at the end of the day, are these t-shirts really cool or are they generic prints? I looked on their website. I loved what the t-shirts stand for and those new up-and-coming artists are designing the styles. They basically represent (by area code) a specific location near popular shores!

Of course I am a huge fan of the 410 t-shirt line. I love that these t-shirts stand for something when so many companies are in business just to do business; these t-shirts actually give you something to talk about. I was so excited to also see that they represent Wilmington, NC (the 910 line), too. I use to live in Chapel Hill and spent so many summers spending time at the beach in Wilmington. It is one of my favorite places!

Sam Svenson and Justin Brooks-Ward grew up in Southern Delaware; Southern, of course, is short for Sussex County. The small town community that is synonymous with this area is at the heart of Salty Project ltd. The supportive nature of this grassroots community inspired them to develop Salty Project ltd.; a clothing company built around supporting the local community.

The Salty shirts are currently being sold in just a few locations. This project is the kind of thing that more retailers need to get behind. Stores need to understand that customers want products that are unique and different, but more importantly, they want to buy merchandise that stands for something! I can't wait to get my 410 t-shirt. I predict great things from these guys.

Take a look at some styles below, and please go to their website and see what they are all about.

Fashionably Yours,

Melissa
