Socially Speaking: Kid-Friendly Events on the Shore

Posted by Shorebread | Thursday, June 21, 2012

This weekend on the shore seems to be incredibly family-friendly. Children will be delighted by the amount of kid-friendly activities occurring this weekend. The best part? Most of these events are scheduled to take place outside, on the beach, or on the boardwalk. Check out our ShoreBread suggestions below if you’re looking for a neat activity to partake in with your children this weekend…

Cars 2 on the Beach

Families in Ocean City on Saturday can sit back, relax, and watch a movie on the beach. Free movies, projected on a big-screen, take place Oceanside on 27th Street in OC during the summer months. On Friday, July 23rd, the movie, Cars 2, will be screened. Beach movies are weather-permitting and will be canceled if weather is bad.

'Two Bees or Not Two Bees' at Freeman Stage

Gary Lloyd, an award-winning storyteller, will visit the Freeman Stage in Selbyville, DE on Saturday, June 23rd. From 10 am – 12 pm, Lloyd will tell the tale of ‘Two Bees or not Two Bees?’ The performance is meant for children and adults who want to discover how exciting story telling can be. Guests who wear yellow and black will get a special present. This Bayside event is free.

The Wonderful World of Bats

The Worcester County Library systems, both Snow Hill and Pocomoke branches, will hold an event devoted to the importance of bats this weekend.  On Saturday, June 23rd, the library will be presenting The Wonderful World of Bats. Guests can learn about local and tropical bats and their importance to the environment. Bring a white t-shirt of purchase one at the library for $4 to join in on a bat-craft that follows the show. For more information, call the Snow Hill Library at 410-632-2600.

Neon Swing X-perience

The Neon Swing X-perience hits the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand on Saturday, June 23rd. Neon Swing X-perience has often been described as the world’s only band bold enough to jump, jive, and rock – and they’ve proven it from coast to coast with hundreds of performances including shows at legendary venues. The band plays original rockabilly, swing, jive, and jazz music. The show begins at 8 pm.

Beach Lights Spectacular

OC Beach Lights presents a Beach Lights Spectacular on Sunday, June 24th. The free laser lights show will be displayed on a giant five-story beach ball and is choreographed to music. Three shows will take place: 9:30, 10, and 10:30 pm. The show will be lighting up the beach at North Division Street in Ocean City three times every Sunday night through Labor Day Weekend.
